Final Post

So my long and over due final update. The last two gyms on our stop were Crossfit North Vancouver and Crossfit Vancouver. Crossfit North Van is a great spot, it is actually where my brother and I now train. The owner Dave is a great guy, we weren’t originally going to stop here but once he heard about us he got in contact and we worked out a date. We were really happy we were able to fit in North Van, Dave put on a great event. It was a huge class and everyone seemed really excited about what we were doing. The workout its self wasn’t my favorite, for the reason I had to finally do the dreaded double unders. Most people were able to complete the workout in a respectable time, unlike me who ended up looking foolish. I am now proud to say I can sort of do double unders. Thanks to Dave and everyone at Crossfit North Vancouver, pretty sure this gym got the record for most t-shirts sold.
After North Van we head out to Vancouver, which happens to be the first ever Crossfit in Canada. The people at Crossfit Vancouver were great, they came over and really made us feel at home in the gym. The workout was a interesting one called the “sinister six”, it was six rounds of six movement for six reps. The thing about this workout is with the low rep count you can do each set unbroken, so the whole workout turns into a sprint. We stayed around for awhile after the workout and talked to the members. The trip has been great getting to meet so many interesting people, haven’t meet a person a didn’t like. One thing I learned from this trip, if you are ever visiting a town and don’t know anyone, find the closest crossfit and your sure to meet a great group of locals.

Alex – And Thus Concludes Our Journey

Due to some scheduling conflicts we had to move CF Vancouver to today. We had a nice rest and were ready for Vancouver. CF Vancouver was the first CF in Canada, is huge facility, has its own vocational school for coaches, and has some outstanding coaches. The WOD had a skill portion, handstands and handstand walks; both skills Matt and I were pretty poor at but it was great to get some feedback from some ex-gymnasts which will help us out next time HSPU come up. The members there were very generous and pooled their money together to make one large donation, I can’t wait until they confirm the number, it will definitely put us over the top.

We have a few administrative things to take care of, namely ordering and shipping the shirts which hopefully will get out to you in 3-4 weeks; but we can confirm we have surpassed our $10,000 total (once the shirts have been ordered we’ll post the final tally). We have had an amazing adventure, seeing our beautiful country, meeting some great people, and helping raise some money for a great charity. I’d like express my thanks to all the supporters of CrossFitters For A Cure, you made this event a success and I hope someday we cross paths again.

Today we stopped in our new hometown gym, Pure Athletics. a 10 min walk from our house. The owner Dave is a great guy and really rallied his athletes to support us. His gym offers a mix of CF, Krav Maga, and Jiu Jitsu; it’s a nice combination of both sport and CF. The workout was a `fun`couplet, heavy deadlifts and double unders which normally wouldn`t be a huge problem but I managed to pull my calf during warmups. Dave even offered to buy 20 t`s and sell them in his gym after the event, which that purchase may have just put us over our goal (will know for sure after the new shirt order has been confirmed). Both Matt and I look forward to training at Pure Athletics.

Alex – CF Vancouver Island

Sorry about the delayed posts, internet hasn’t been cooperating for the last few days.

Today I visited CF Vancouver Island, we were on a tight schedule and only I was able to workout at the facility as Matt had to go to CF Zone. At Van. Island, they had a great way of raising money for the event; they would begin the class with a 10 AMRAP pushups and every pushup completed by the athlete the gym would donate 2 cents. They have a huge membership and I’m looking forward to when the confirm the amount. The workout was my nemesis as it involved an insane amount of knees to elbows and situps, but it was good to tackle a WOD (even though I didn’t complete it) that worked on my weaknesses. Unfortunately I had to rush out of the gym afterwards to catch Matt as he did his WOD, I wish I got to hang around for little while and chat with the members and coaches. I really had a great time and hopefully get a chance to visit there again
